Your Guide to Moving into The Waterford

Independent senior living communities offer peace of mind for long-term care while allowing you to remain independent and pursue your passions. We know that making the decision to move to a senior living community is not always an easy one. Making a move of any kind requires careful consideration of your lifestyle and financial situation, but add the additional layer of long-term care and there are even more factors to consider.

We want to get to know you, better understand what you hope to get out of your next chapter of life and then arm you with the answers you need in order to make an informed decision. We know the uncertainty of change can be unnerving, which is why we want to help outline what you can expect when you decide to move into independent living at The Waterford.

1. Select a senior living community

Before you make the move to an independent living community, you first need to get a feel for what’s out there. We advise scheduling a virtual or in-person tour at three retirement communities near you to try and get a sense of whether or not you can picture yourself living there. If you can, get to know more about the community by spending time there and asking the sales team how they would be able to meet your needs and desires.

When you tour The Waterford, you’ll discover a friendly, personable community nestled in Juno Beach, Florida. Our residents are passionate about nurturing mind, body and spirit. Whether through pampering and a round of golf at PGA National Golf Course & Spa, a lively cooking demo with our culinary team or blissful relaxation on our resort-style campus, there’s something for everyone here.

2. Reserve your space

If you’ve decided our spirited community in Palm Beach County is just what you’re looking for, the next step will be to work with our sales team to narrow down the selection of your new home. We offer a number of different floor plans to suit the different lifestyles and preferences of our residents. To reserve your space, we’ll have you put down a deposit and sign a reservation agreement.

To round out the process of securing your new home, we’ll ask you to share a bit of financial and medical information. This information is strictly confidential and helps ensure that your future financial and healthcare needs will be taken care of.

As the only Life Care community in Juno Beach, we are happy to offer our residents a modified Type A contract. This allows our residents to age in place as healthcare costs for higher levels of living are included in their monthly fee. Should the time come that you or your spouse require additional care or support, you can receive that care from the comfort of the community you’ve come to love.

3. Establish your closing date

With the qualification paperwork finalized and your apartment selected, we’ll identify a closing date and set you up with our resident move-in coordinator who will help guide you through moving day and beyond. The first thing our move-in coordinator will do is discuss the customizations you’d like made to your new home. We’ll see to it that those updates are ready by closing and continue to keep you informed as your move-in day draws near.

On average, from signing your contract to moving in, the process can take about 90 days. However, depending on the desired upgrades to your new home and your own personal timeline, it could take less time.

4. Sell Your home and prepare to move

Once your move-in date is scheduled, be sure to line up the movers. If you have a preferred moving company, go ahead and schedule them, otherwise we can provide you with a list of the companies we recommend.

At this point in the process, two of the biggest undertakings are selling your home and downsizing your possessions. This process can be overwhelming, so we recommend starting small. Try and channel your inner Marie Kondo and only keep the items that truly spark joy. And think about how your lifestyle might change once you are at The Waterford. Fewer meals you’re responsible for preparing means fewer kitchen utensils you need to pack up, and no need to worry about bringing lawn or other home maintenance equipment — it’s all taken care of!

Our residents are always our number one priority — starting from the moment you sign your contract. It is our goal is to make the entire moving process as pleasant and seamless as possible for you. That includes providing assistance with organizing, packing and even selling your home. If you wish, our move-in coordinator can come to your home to help you evaluate your furnishings to determine what will fit with the floor plan of your new home. And if you require assistance selling your home, we will connect you with our partner, at no additional cost to you.

5. Move into The Waterford

At your closing appointment, you’ll be required to pay the final balance of your entrance fee. We also recommend bringing essential documents like your living will, power of attorney and proof of renter’s insurance.

When your movers arrive, we will ensure they have a designated space to park, a clear path towards your new home and any necessary access to elevators. We also provide your lunch on move-in day, including for any family or friends helping you move in.

It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of a move. Don’t forget to keep a few essentials handy on moving day. We recommend having a clearly marked box or bag containing toiletries, snacks, chargers, a pen and paper, toilet paper and trash bags.

6. Settle in to luxury living

Once the movers are gone, take some time to relax. Remember, you didn’t get everything packed in one day, so unpacking might take some time as well. As you do finish unpacking and get settled into your new home, be sure to call maintenance when you’re ready to hang cherished family photographs and artwork on the walls to put that personal touch on your space.

Our moving assistance doesn’t end on moving day. We provide an additional eight complimentary hours of personal assistance within your first 30 days of moving into The Waterford.

Additionally, over the course of your first few weeks many of our team members will be stopping by to welcome you, get to know you better and find out how we can best meet your needs.  We’re excited that you’ve decided to join The Waterford family.
